About the artwork printed on this tote bag

The motif on this ukiyo-e tote bag is originating in the world-famous painting “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa” by Katsushika Hokusai. Created in 1830, it shows a large wave about to crash down on the shore, with Mount Fuji visible in the background. The image is characterized by its use of strong diagonal lines and the contrasting colors of the white foam of the wave and the deep blue of the ocean. Otherwise, the color palette is mostly recognized for its color-true shades of blue, green and beige. The original ukiyo-e woodblock print is calculated to be worth $1.600.000.
