About the artwork printed on this bomber jacket
The motif on this ukiyo-e bomber jacket is having its source in the deemed fantastic ukiyo-e composition “The Great Wave Off Kanagawa” by Katsushika Hokusai. Created in 1830, it shows a large wave about to crash down on the shore, with Mount Fuji visible in the background. The image is characterized by its use of strong diagonal lines and the contrasting colors of the white foam of the wave and the deep blue of the ocean. Correspondingly, the color palette is mostly recognized for its even brighter shades of blue, green and beige. The original ukiyo-e woodblock print has been sold at auctions for about $1.600.000.
